UFC fighter Michael ‘The Count’ Bisping gave a sublime performance as he earned a split-decision victory over Brazil’s Thales Leites in Glasgow last night and, aside from a few cuts to the eye, they both appeared to be in pretty decent shape having gone to war for 25 minutes.
But after the final bell, as pools of blood began to form on the canvas, it soon became clear that Manchester-born fighter Bisping had lost a considerable chunk of his big toe.
UFC commentators Mike Goldberg and Brian Stann noted several times over the five-round contest that Bisping’s mobility and footwork did not look like his typical self. And it wasn’t long before we had an answer as to why.
Miraculously, though, he didn’t show any signs or pain or acknowledge the injury at any point. That surely won’t be the case once the adrenaline of the fight wears off.
“It’s nice you go out and put a hard-fought, five-round fight and all people want to talk about is the toe,” Bisping told MMAjunkie after the bout. “It’s just an annoying injury. Every step was painful. But I’m not going to complain.”
