Ahead of Rangers’ match away to Alloa this afternoon, Mark Warburton has revealed that Lee Wallace has officially been named as the full time Rangers captain.
It’s been a very important decision and we took our time. Lee Wallace has been outstanding since the first day of pre season and all the boys have responded to his leadership.
I am delighted for Lee and this will now become a full time commitment for him. I have no doubt he will embrace the responsibility.
Wallace has been leading the side throughout pre season and had captained the team excellently in the first few league and cup games of the season – even managing to bag a few goals against St Mirren last Friday night.
It perhaps won’t come as a huge surprise, but many within Ibrox had felt Warburton may have gone for a more experienced name, with ex-Derby captain John Eustace seen as a potential new signing and captain.
Wallace’s first game as the official captain will come this afternoon as he leads out his side against Alloa Athletic at Recreation Park in the second match of the Championship season.
