It has been three years since Luka Modric left Tottenham Hotspur for Real Madrid in a £30 million deal which kicked off the idea that the London club wouldn’t be able to hold on to their best players anymore.
Fast forward twelve months and that idea was highlighted further as Gareth Bale joined Modric at the Bernabeu in a massive £85 million deal which smashed the transfer record previously set by Cristiano Ronaldo who swapped Manchester for Madrid back in 2009.
Surprisingly, it has been the previous who has had the more successful career in La Liga with many Los Blancos fans losing patience with Bale as rumours brew of a possible return to the Premier League for the Welshman.
And tomorrow, both players will come up against their former employers as Real take on Mauricio Pochettino’s side in the Audi Cup in Munich.
Modric took to Instagram to say how much he was looking forward to the meeting as he posted the below photo with the caption:
Looking forward for the very special game tomorrow against my former team Tottenham Hotspur and I’m sure @garethbale11 does too…⚽️? #AudiCup#Munich#Coys#HalaMadrid#
