Twitter Reacts as Parma are Forced to Sell Their Trophy Cabinet Due to Insolvency

Former Serie A side Parma are being forced to put the club’s silverware up for auction after being placed into insolvency last season.

The club which was historically one of Italy’s most successful, now has an estimated debt of around €218 million.

This forced the Italian FA to relegated Parma after they declared bankruptcy back in March and the club has since dissolved with a successor being forced to start life again in Serie D.

And it’s understood that in order to pay off some of the old club’s massive debts, they are being forced to sell trophies won between 1992 and 2000.

This silverware up for auction reportedly includes:

  • Coppa Italia 1992
  • UEFA Cup Winner’s Cup 1993
  • UEFA Super Cup 1994
  • UEFA Cup 1995
  • Coppa Italia 1999
  • UEFA Cup 1999
  • Supercoppa Italiana 1999
  • Coppa Italia 2002

The club are also looking to sell the Parma brand and the club’s video archive in order to raise much-needed funds.

Twitter of course was quick to react to the news that one of football’s most recognisable clubs was forced into such a desperate move:

A truly sad state of affairs for a club who once boasted the star power of Gigi Buffon, Fabio Cannavaro, Hernan Crespo, Hristo Stoichkov, Lillian Thuram, Juan Sebastian Veron and Gianfranco Zola.
