Chelsea striker Diego Costa has been slapped with a three-game ban from the FA after his weekend antics against Arsenal.
The news comes on the same day that Arsenal defender Gabriel was cleared of violent conduct after footage emerged from ESPN Brazil showing that there was no contact between the Gunners centre-back and Costa during their skirmish.
And the Blues were left furious by the turn of events, and issued a strongly worded statement late on Tuesday night slamming the governing body’s decision.
The Chelsea statement read:
We are extremely disappointed with the FA Regulatory Commission’s decision to suspend Diego Costa.
We will await their written reasons before commenting further.
Gabriel still faces a hearing on Thursday of improper conduct for failing to leave the pitch while both clubs must also answer charges of failing to control their players, but it is Jose Mourinho and co who will be raging at the prospect of losing their first choice striker for almost a month.
