To say Roy Keane is a stranger to controversy is like saying Celtic are strangers to an away defeat in Europe.
The ex-Manchester United captain isn’t afraid to give his opinion, no matter how unpalatable it may be at times, and it’s no secret that Keane might not be completely over his bitter divorce from the Red Devils.
But United fans won’t like his latest comments on injured left-back Luke Shaw.
Commenting on Hector Moreno’s challenge that left Shaw with a double fracture in his right leg on Tuesday night, Keane told ITV Sport:
I thought it was a brilliant challenge. I love the physical side of the game.
You can always tell by player reactions and none of the United lads at the time – and players are best judges because they are nearest the tackle – didn’t react over the top thinking it was a bad challenge, obviously at the end of it.
And when players are travelling that speed, defending like that, injuries are going to happen. I’m surprised there are not more like it. It was more of an accident at the end with his trailing foot.
You could definitely argue that Moreno didn’t intend to hurt Shaw, but a brilliant challenge? Come on, Roy. Have a word with yourself.
