Liverpool make their Europa League bow tonight against Bordeaux and former Reds defender Jamie Carragher has posted a brilliant throwback Thursday picture to mark the occasion.
Carragher was of course no stranger to big European nights for the Anfield club, having won the UEFA Super Cup twice followed by the Champions League in 2005.
However it was a moment from back in 2001 which Carragher decided to remind us of this afternoon, when he posted an image of himself, Steven Gerrard, Robbie Fowler and Michael Owen lifting the UEFA Cup.
Liverpool beat Spanish side Alaves 5-4 that night after extra time with goals from Markus Babbel, Gerrard, Gary McAllister, Robbie Fowler and an own-goal from Delfí Geli.
And perhaps in a bid to spur his side onto yet another European triumph, Carragher posted this snap of that Liverpool team celebrating their success:
Liverpool travel to Bordeaux looking to kickstart their European campaign in style.
However, manager Brendan Rodgers has been criticised for leaving star players without Christian Benteke, James Milner, Lucas Leiva, Dejan Lovren, Nathaniel Clyne and Martin Skrtel out of the squad.
Rodgers has since defended his decision to rest several key players, he said:
“I’ll pick a team to win the game.
We have a lot of games coming up over the next couple of months and I have every confidence that every team I put out for every game is capable of winning.”
