Miguel Angel Jimenez has opened the door to a stunning Olympics appearance – and he’s done so in hilarious style.
The golfer is in line to be one of Spain’s two representatives at next summer’s Games in Rio as he falls behind just Sergio Garcia at 59 in the world golf rankings.
That would mean the 51-year-old Malaga man also being one of the oldest athletes at the Olympics.
Jimenez is currently at the KLM Open in Holland and spoke ahead of the tournament kick-off tomorrow.
Asked about his Olympic prospects and whether he’d be keen to compete, Jimenez said:
Of course I would like to be in the Olympics.
Can you imagine Miguel Angel Jimenez in Rio with a big fat cigar, walking through the middle of the Olympic Village with all the athletes around?!
I would love that.
It’s a brilliant response from Jimenez – and one which accurately reflects just what the Spaniard brings to any tournament he plays in.
He might not win gold for Spain at the Olympics, but he’d be a hugely enjoyable golfer to watch in action at such a big event.
