Rugby Fan Cycles An Amazing 27,000 Miles to Watch His Beloved Springboks Lose to Japan

How far would you go to watch your team in action? Most sports fans consider it a minor miracle if they get a weekend to themselves away from their better halves to follow the sport of their choice.

So spare a thought for Rugby Union fan Ron Rutland.

The South Africa supporter has been on a momentous journey, travelling through every country in Europe and Africa by bike over the course of almost a YEAR to finish up in England on Saturday to watch his beloved Springboks in action against Japan.

Ron thought it’d be a nice, relaxing afternoon watching his heroes crush their helpless opponents in their World Cup opener. But, instead, history was made, and 80-1 outsiders Japan somehow managed to beat one of the tournament favourites 34-32 in a match that has been described by some as one of the biggest shocks in the history of not just rugby, but sport itself.

To be fair to Ron, despite being a bit shell-shocked, he took the defeat very graciously…
