Stoke City Have Their Say On Alessandro Florenzi’s Wonder Strike… Was Charlie Adam’s Better?

Alessandro Florenzi scored a long-range screamer for Roma against Barcelona in the Champions League last night and as soon as the ball hit the back of the net the internet exploded.

Yes, social media users around the world took to Twitter to congratulate the 24-year-old on what will surely be one of the goals of the season… and even Premier League side Stoke City got involved.

However, their congratulatory message came with a definite pinch of salt.

Stoke Tweeted that while Florenzi’s lob from over 60 yards was “great”… they questioned whether the Italian would be able to do the same from his own half vs Chelsea at Stamford Bridge… à la Charlie Adam:

And as you’d probably imagine the Twitter-sphere wasn’t exactly best pleased that Stoke City were comparing a goal scored against the Premier League champions to one struck against the current champions of the Champions League.

Stoke however remained bullish and admitted it was just a joke and that they were simply fishing for a reaction from some OTT supporters:

Here’s Adam’s goal from last season against the Blues:
