VIDEO: Turf at Dallas Cowboys Stadium Could Have Seriously Injured Lionel Messi

Lionel Messi could have suffered a serious injury during Argentina’s friendly game with Mexico in Dallas’ AT&T Stadium last night.

Home to NFL team the Dallas Cowboys, the stadium isn’t usually used for soccer and when american football games are played there the artificial turf – or astrograss as it is commonly referred to in Europe – is used.

So it proved to be a difficult surface last night with grass only recently laid down to facilitate this friendly between the nations.

There were several instances throughout the match of players losing their footing – and it contributed to a game fraught with poor touches and misplaced passed despite the 2-2 final score.

But the most alarming moment came just before half-time when Messi almost lost his footing during an Argentina attack.

Beginning one of his trademark changes of direction, the Barcelona forward was stopped in his tracks after his right foot gave way horribly to the dodgy grass.

Luckily for Messi, Argentina and Barca, he didn’t suffer a serious injury – but it could have been so different had his foot fully planted in the turf:
