Barcelona are said to be mulling over a move for former Liverpool striker Dirk Kuyt, in one of the strangest transfer rumours we’ve heard in years.
According to Spanish Newspaper Sport, the Catalan giants are looking for more strength and depth in their attack after the departure of Pedro to Chelsea in the summer transfer window.
The Spanish winger’s move to west London has left Barca short of options going forward and were left badly exposed after Leo Messi suffered knee ligament damage in the recent La Liga match against Las Palmas and was ruled out for two months.
And, apparently, sources within the club see Dirk Kuyt as the man fit to fill the role of reserve striker, a void that hasn’t really been filled successfully since Henrik Larsson left the club almost a decade ago.
Kuyt, who won the League Cup during his time on Merseyside, as well as scoring in the 2007 Champions League final, is now 35-years-old and only recently returned to home-town club Feyenoord after several seasons with Fenerbahce.
It remains to be seen whether he could be tempted by such a surprising move, if indeed it comes to fruition.
