Ronny Deila has been forced to deal with yet more unrest in his Celtic squad today after confirming a training ground bust-up took place between Emilio Izaguirre and Nadir Ciftci.
According to Deila, Honduran left-back Izaguirre required stitches in his ear after summer signing Ciftci reacted badly to a tasty tackle ahead of tomorrow’s League Cup tie away to Hearts.
The Hoops boss confirmed the incident in his pre-match press conference this afternoon, saying:
He’s available for tomorrow. There was a tackle and a reaction in training.
He had to get it stitched and he’s fine for tomorrow. A reaction from another player to a tackle.
I always say to my players that I want 100 per cent at training and it’s been fantastic lately.
Sometimes it gets a little bit hot.
Nadir was player who reacted. He’s available tomorrow. We have sorted it inside and finished with it and we will move on.
The incident comes less than a week after Kris Commons’ now infamous outburst after being substituted against Molde in the Europa League, forcing Deila to insist that everything was OK behind the scenes at Celtic Park.
And just last month, first-team coach John Kennedy went out of his way to rubbish talk of unrest amongst first team players at Parkhead.
Details of exactly how Izaguirre sustained his ear injury remain unclear, but Ciftci does have a history of biting. Just saying.
