As we all know, agents are an important part of football transfers in the modern era, whether we like it or not.
The likes of Jorge Mendes, Mino Raiola and Pini Zahavi are known to have a controlling interest in some of the biggest and most lucrative transfers in the sport today.
So, if you’re a 22-year-old Argentina international, and captain of one of the biggest clubs in Serie A, you’d obviously want a wily, experienced old hand looking after your affairs, right?
Well, wrong apparently.
Mauro Icardi, skipper of Inter Milan and said to be one of the most sought-after strikers in Europe at the moment, linked with Chelsea and Manchester City in the summer, has decided to put his wife in charge of his future, a lady who has zero experience as a football agent.
His previous agent Abian Moreno told Argentine news outlets that his contract with the imposing forward has not been renewed after working with him for over a decade.
Moreno explained that he is “seriously hurt” by Icardi’s decision to get rid of him, during a passionate interview with Radio Uno, before going on to drop the bombshell that his replacement will be Icardi’s wife – former model Wanda Nara.
Nara was infamously previously married to Icardi’s former team-mate Maxi Lopez. Icardi was friends with the then-couple, although it soon transpired he was a lot friendlier with Nara.
At least she’s got the ruthless streak required.
