Arsenal finally grabbed their first points of this season’s Champions League campaign after a shock 2-0 win over competition favourites Bayern Munich got them off the foot of the table.
The Gunners were in serious danger of crashing out of the competition prior to tonight’s tie after failing to avoid defeat in their opening two games before going in to a double header against the German champions.
However, after fighting off the threat from Bayern in the first 70 minutes of the game, a goal from Olivier Giroud set Arsenal on their way to a famous victory before German international Mesut Ozil bagged the winner in the dying moments of the game.
Arsene Wenger’s side could have taken the lead in the first half if it wasn’t for a wonderful (and that’s an understatement) save from Manuel Neuer, however, the Bayern goalkeeper has took the blame for his side’s defeat this evening.
Speaking after the game, Neuer said:
Perhaps a draw would have been fair, but I made the mistake that gave Arsenal the lead. On we go.
Arsenal will now face Everton on Saturday evening as they look to go to the top of the Premier League with Manchester City and Manchester United not facing each other until Sunday.
