Video: Arsenal’s Mikel Arteta Reveals How He Could Have Played For England

Mikel Arteta took a trip down memory lane in the latest instalment of Arsenal Albums.

The Gunners’ midfield stalwart was the latest star to look back at a scrapbook of pictures from throughout his career.

The 33-year-old Spaniard discusses his early days at Barcelona’s youth academy, La Masia, where he shared a room with the likes of Xavi, Andres Iniesta and Pepe Reina.

Arteta also recalls his successful spell at Rangers, describing the state of Scottish football back then as “very different” from what it is now.

But one of the biggest revelations to come from the video was when Arteta revealed how he was approached about playing for England.

While playing under David Moyes at Everton, Arteta explains how then England boss Fabio Capello contacted the Goodison side about the midfielder’s eligibility to play for the Three Lions.

Arteta tells how he considered the option but it eventually broke down due to legal complications.
