Rubin Kazan may have slumped to a 1-0 defeat at home to Liverpool last night – but boss Valeriy Chaly reckons his side are still better than Chelsea.
A second half strike from midfielder Jordan Ibe handed Jurgen Klopp’s side all three points and left their Russian opponents rooted to the bottom of Group B in the Europa League.
The two sides had battled out a 1-1 draw a fortnight ago at Anfield in Klopp’s second game in charge.
However, Liverpool’s high-tempo passing in Russia left Kazan with just 32% possession over the 90 minutes.
But Ukrainian coach Chaly was surprisingly upbeat about his side’s performance despite the disappointing result.
He even took solace in the fact that his side had only been beaten by one goal, whereas Jose Mourinho’s struggling Chelsea side were beaten by two at the weekend.
Chaly joked: “In the second half we looked more composed but we have a problem with the composition so the young players had a chance.
“For them, it’s an experience. Liverpool are a good team and showed that against Chelsea – so, we are still better than Chelsea.”
