Angel di Maria has taken a sly dig at Real Madrid as he continues to settle into life at PSG.
The Argentine winger was a fans’ favourite at in the Spanish capital after joining in 2010, and set-up Gareth Bale’s decisive goal in the 2014 Champions League Final against bitter rivals, winning man of the match in the process.
But di Maria was sold by Los Blancos that same summer, with Manchester United’s £59.7 million offer accepted by the club’s hierarchy.
And now that his failed move to United is over, di Maria has admitted he never wanted to play for the Premier League side in the first place, whilst having a cheeky dig at Madrid in the process.
In an interview with beIN Sports, he said:
“After winning ‘La Décima’ my mind was set on staying at Real Madrid for many more years, but these things happen in football.
“Since I left Real Madrid haven’t won anything. In any case, I think that I left at the right time and the right way.”
But despite his reluctant departure from the Bernabeu, di Maria insists he still holds the city and his spell there in the highest regard.
He concluded: “I have great memories of Madrid. Leaving aside footballing matters, my daughter was born while I was there and they saved her life in Spain. I’m never going to forget what I experienced there.
