Celtic Fans Question Fenerbahce Trip As Tension Builds Between Turkey and Russia

Celtic Fans Question Fenerbahce Trip As Tension Builds Between Turkey and Russia

After the tragic events of Paris and Beirut less than two weeks ago the world sits back in panic as more and more terrifying news meets our eyes on a daily basis.

Following the attacks on Paris – one of which took place just outside the Stade de France while the national team hosted Germany – more sporting events were cancelled with the most noticeable being Holland’s friendly at Belgium last week.

It is a horrifying situation we currently face and one future fixture which may be under threat is Celtic’s Europa League tie against Fenerbahce, which is set to take place in Istanbul two weeks on Thursday.

News broke today that the Turkish army shot down a Russian fighter jet on the border with Syria leading to many expecting a nasty backlash from Vladimir Putin and his country.

With Istanbul being so far away from the border, many fans believe there is no risk to their safety and remain looking forward to their trip, however, others are not so sure with many backing out over fears of attacks.

Here, we’ve rounded up some reaction from fans on Twitter:
