The one thing that Cristiano Ronaldo needs right now is a bit of an ego boost…NOT.
But that’s exactly what the reigning Ballon d’Or holder will get when Real Madrid travel to Eibar this weekend.
Los Blancos travel to the La Liga minnows looking to chop down Barcelona’s six-point lead at the top of the table, and the visit of Ronaldo and co is treated as a major event by inhabitants of the Basque town, just as it was when they came calling last season and won 0-4.
And Eibar’s sponsors, smartphone company Wiko, have sensed an opportunity of some free publicity when Ronnie comes calling, and will be putting up thousands of golden balloons all over the city to mark the occasion.
The balloons represent Ronaldo’s Ballon d’Or award, and are set to be attached to benches, traffic lights, lamp-posts… and there will even be a special photo call area where fans can have their photograph taken with a replica of the trophy.
Ronaldo should probably make the most of the event, because we have a feeling that Wiko will be holding the same event in honour of Leo Messi the next time he visits. Just saying.
