Fernando Ricksen will be at Celtic’s Europa League tie against Ajax tonight as the Parkhead club’s guest.
The former Rangers captain has been invited to the Hoops’ must-win clash against the Dutch side as continues to battle against Motor Neurone Disease.
The former Holland internationalist revealed that he’d be in attendance as a guest at the home of his old club’s bitter enemies on his Facebook page, writing that he was “honoured” by the invitation: “I’m looking forward to go to tonight’s game, Celtic v Ajax, at Parkhead.
“Many times I played there with Rangers as an opponent but tonight it’s my first visit as a guest.
“I’m honoured to be invited to this game and hope to see a lightning football match from both sides.”
Ricksen has been struggling with the debilitating disease for several years, and has been supported by both Old Firm clubs since his diagnosis was revealed in 2013.
The retired full-back never played for Ajax in his career, but came up against them many times during spells with Fortuna Sittard and AZ Alkmaar.
Ronny Deila’s men must avoid defeat against Frank de Boer’s men to keep alive their hopes of reaching the competition’s last-32, with a win realistically needed.
