Jamie Carragher has taken an undisguised swipe at embattled Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho, describing the Portuguese boss as “embarrassing”.
Mourinho and his Blues side find themselves marooned in 15th place in the Premier League table after losing six of their opening 11 league matches, as their title defence crashes and burns before Autumn has even set in.
Speaking in his capacity as a pundit for Sky Sports on Monday Night Football, Carragher, who was at the centre of many battles against Mourinho’s Chelsea during his playing career with Liverpool, has stuck the boot into his old rival.
He has to change some things and these interviews have got to stop, because they’re embarrassing him and they’re embarrassing the club
Maybe he’s trying to create a siege mentality but I don’t think the players would be totally agreeing with the manager, blaming referees. Chelsea were very poor at the weekend.
This paranoia has got to stop, that the world is against them because they’re not.
But despite Carragher’s thinly-veiled attack, he went on to insist that the Chelsea hierarchy should keep the faith in the former Real Madrid and Porto boss, claiming they’d struggle to find a better replacement.
I’m a massive fan of Jose Mourinho and I’d like him to stay because there’s been too many changes in the past at Chelsea.
These players performances have been shocking. It’s about time we took more of a look at them. The manager is always in the spotlight.
