Phil Thompson Mistakenly Calls Ashley Young ‘Tom Daley’ on TV

Phil Thompson knows how to put a man down – as he demonstrated with Ashley Young this afternoon.

The Liverpool legend was appearing in his usual spot on Sky Sports’ Gillette Soccer Saturday coverage when he mistakenly called the Manchester United winger Tom Daley.

It’s a pretty funny mistake, which the rest of the panel found hilarious, and he had to correct himself before going on to talk about how good Young actually is playing from left midfield.

Thompson’s error comes after Young attracted criticism for diving in United’s midweek Champions League win over CSKA Moscow at Old Trafford.

Roy Keane described Young as an “absolute disgrace” for the dive which quite rightly didn’t earn a penalty – and Thompson has followed up with his mistake which could be seen as a dig by some United fans.

The English wideman is in the United team today again for their Premier League clash with West Brom and will do well to stay on his feet as much as possible throughout the 90 minutes.
