Does anyone actually remember Florent Sinama Pongolle? In case you don’t, we’ll job your memory briefly.
The one-time France international is now 31 and will be remembered most by fans of Liverpool, Recreativo de Huelva and Atletico Madrid – but will no doubt be forgotten by the rest.
He’s scored 59 goals throughout his 14-year career – most of those coming for the above clubs – despite playing in seven different countries with 11 different teams – the striker’s last spell at Swiss side Lausanne bringing 0 goals in 0 games.
But, somehow, he’s managed to earn himself a trial spell with Dundee United, as reported by the Daily Record this morning.
And fans of the Arabs could be pinning their hopes for Scottish Premiership survival on Sinama Pongolle IF he can prove to manager Mixu Paatelainen that he’s good enough.
What can they expect from the Frenchman? That’s difficult to predict considering he’s cost a total of £18million in transfer fees, but rarely lived up to the promise.
However, he’s shown in fits and starts that he can be good in front of goal and United will hope that he can score the goals to take them off the bottom of the Premiership if he signs on.
This was one of his last ever goals as he scored a winner in a Chicago Fire victory over Houston Dynamo just over a year ago:
