Barcelona and Brazil legend Rivaldo has weighed into the lengthy debate surrounding who is the best football player in the world.
And rather than siding with either predictable choices of either Argentina’s Lionel Messi or Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo, Rivaldo has went a little closer to home with his pick…
Yes, the 43-year-old has revealed that he believes Neymar deserves to be crowned this year’s winner of the Ballon d’Or.
The former Santos striker has been in tremendous form since Messi was ruled out with injury earlier in the season.
So much so that Luis Enrique must be wondering how Neymar will react when Messi returns to the fold and takes back his place as the team’s golden boy.
But for now, Rivaldo is simply enjoying Neymar’s journey to the top… especially since the 23-year-old wears the same number 11 shirt that Rivaldo wore during his time at the Camp Nou.
Rivaldo said, via his official Instagram account:
“I would like to say that it has been good to see @Neymarjr playing for Barcelona and specially with this shirt 11, that I know very well.
“I do not know who will be the best in the world 2015, but in my humble opinion and respecting Cristiano Ronaldo Messi and others, Neymar deserves to be the best in the world.”
Neymar has scored 13 goals in 14 appearances in all competitions so far this season and has created an impressive six assists.
The Brazil international stole the show against Villareal with this wonderful strike:
