Ruben Loftus-Cheek served the best reminder to watching manager Jose Mourinho as he scored an incredible solo goal just 10 seconds into a 4-0 Chelsea Under-21 victory over Liverpool yesterday.
The young midfielder has played just four games for the first team all season, but hasn’t featured since the 2-0 victory over Aston Villa at the start of last month.
He burst on to the scene at the end of last season with some assured performances in centre midfield for the English champions.
But he was harshly criticised by Mourinho in June after a disappointing display in a friendly clash with Sydney FC and has found opportunities limited despite Chelsea’s awful start to the campaign.
However, Loftus-Cheek turned out for the club’s Under-21 side yesterday and showed Mourinho and the rest of his coaching staff – who attended the game – what he’s all about.
Receiving a pass straight from kick-off, the 19-year-old midfielder powerfully burst past three Liverpool players before slotting home to give Chelsea a 1-0 lead after 10 seconds:

It was a simply ridiculous goal which should remind Mourinho that he has some top young talent ready and willing to help improve first team results.
After the weekend defeat to Stoke, maybe we’ll see the Chelsea boss begin to use them more.
