The boots Steven Gerrard wore in his last game for Liverpool have been auctioned off at a huge £40,000.
The legendary former Kop hero called time on his career with the club at the end of last season as he moved on to appear for LA Galaxy in MLS.
That brought to an end his illustrious 26-year affiliation with Liverpool – a spell which saw him become club captain and lift two FA Cups, two League Cups, the UEFA Cup and the Champions League.
His last home game for the club came against Crystal Palace – a match which Liverpool lost 3-1 – before his time in England ended with the dismal 6-1 defeat to Stoke at the Britannia Stadium.
But Gerrard was wearing special edition Adidas predator instinct boots to mark the occasion – and it seems one fan was desperate to get his hands on the memorabilia as it was put up for auction at the weekend.
A total of 185 bids were made for the boots and the winning one came in at a whopping £42,200:
The money raised will go to the British Red Cross Europe Refugee Crisis Appeal while the boots will head to one delighted Liverpool fan.
