Twitter Reacts in Astonishment to England Calling Up Ryan Mason

Ryan Mason has earned a call-up for England’s friendly with France tomorrow night – and some fans are not happy.

The Tottenham midfielder has replaced Fabian Delph in the squad after the Manchester City man picked up an injury in the 2-0 defeat to Spain last week.

Mason made his England debut in March by replacing Jordan Henderson in their 1-1 draw with Italy.

But he did miss out on the latest squad as boss Roy Hodgson handed call-ups to Eric Dier, Dele Alli and Jonjo Shelvey in midfield.

Mason’s call-up comes a day after Hodgson brought Manchester United youngster Jesse Lingard into the squad after Michael Carrick and Jamie Vardy both withdrew through injury.

Like Lingard, the reaction to Mason getting an England spot has been heated, with some fans believing he hasn’t shown enough in his time with Spurs to merit a call-up to the national team.
