Aston Villa haven’t had many bright spots this season, but Jordan Amavi is certainly one of them.
The left-back has been one of the struggling Midlands club’s best players this term after arriving at the club in a £9 million deal from Nice last summer, with his lung-bursting runs down the flank one of his team’s very few attacking outlets.
But it looks like the 21-year-old’s maiden Premier League season has been cut cruelly short after he was involved in a horrific incident playing for France under-21s on Thursday night.
Les Bleus’ win over their Northern Irish counterparts was blighted by the brutal fall Amavi suffered in the second half, with his right leg twisting and contorting out of all recognition. If you’re squeamish, look away now…

According to The Birmingham Mail, France under-21 coach Pierre Mankowski told reporters after the match that it was “too early to tell” how serious the injury was but it certainly doesn’t look to us like he’ll be playing any time soon.
Get well soon, Jordan!
