It’s that time of year again when FIFA announce their nominations for the best goal scored anywhere in the world over the last 12 months, and, as usual, there’s a few eyebrow-raisers in the shortlist.
The Puskás Award is given out to a footballer – male of female – for coming up with the best strike in global football between the dates of 27 September 2014 and 23 September 2015, with James Rodriguez winning 2014’s edition for his striker in Columbia’s World Cup last-16 match against Uruguay last year.
The game’s governing body have released the nominations for this year, and some of the usual suspects, like Leo Messi and Carlos Tevez, make the grade but there’s one or two shock entries, most notably David Ball of Fleetwood Town.
The striker, who turns 26 next month, has been chosen for his wonder goal in League One against Preston North End in March.
Ball shows Bergkamp-esque feet to evade several challenges on the edge of the penalty area, before launching a majestic chip high over the helpless keeper. Amazing stuff.
But who would your vote go to? Check out all 10 goals here and let us know!
