So, what better way to mark Schmeichel’s special day than with an epic throwback clip of a wonderful save he made while playing for the club.

Schmeichel made 292 appearances for United over a seven year spell and earned a reputation as one of the best keepers in world football under Sir Alex Ferguson.

During his time at Old Trafford, Schmeichel lifted five Premier League titles, three FA Cups and he was also part of the team which one the Champions League in the dying minutes against Bayern Munich.

And on top of that, the ex-goalkeeper made some wonderful saves along the way, including this one which Manchester United reminded us of today via their official Instagram account:

The video was accompanied with the caption:

“Happy birthday to#mufc legend Peter Schmeichel, who turns 52 today! They don’t call him the Great Dane for nothing…”

Schmeichel made the tremendous save at St James Park against Newcastle United in 1998 and it’s gone down in the club’s history as one of the greatest ever made by a Manchester United goalkeeper.
