Earlier today we brought you the story that the new official nicest guy of all-time Sonny Bill Williams gave his World Cup winner’s medal to a young fan who had just been tackled by a security guard.
The New Zealand centre was already a hero in the eyes of All Blacks fans after winning the 2011 World Cup, and he only strengthened his case by coming off the bench to contribute significantly in 34-17 win in yesterday’s final against Australia.
But Bill Williams gained himself a whole new legion of fans the world over by handing his second winner’s medal to 14-year-old fan Charlie Lines, who had stormed the pitch to get close to his idols after the full-time whistle.
Thankfully, though, SBW will in fact get his second medal after all, following the decision by World Rugby to gift him a replacement.
It just goes to show that acts of kindness do go rewarded sometimes. Common sense in sport, at last!
