Juan Sebastian Veron has dropped a bombshell in his native Argentina by claiming that Leo Messi wants to play for Inter Milan.
The now-retired former Manchester United midfielder played alongside four-time Ballon d’Or winner and Barcelona superstar Messi at international level, in the forward’s early years.
And Veron, who played in Serie A for Inter and Parma, has told Italian newspapers that his superstar compatriot is keen on gracing the San Siro with his presence on a permanent basis one day.
Veron is quoted in Tuttosport as saying: “It’s been a few years, but one time he told me he would like to play for Inter.
“But let me be clear, this was something that happened in the past.
“Massimo Moratti was still the owner of Inter and, frankly, I see it impossible for Leo to leave Barcelona.”
Messi’s Barcelona are currently level with Atletico Madrid on 35 points at the top of La Liga but Luis Enrique’s side have played 16 games, one less than Diego Simeone’s, due to Club World Cup involvement.
Inter Milan – managed by former Man City boss Roberto Mancini – lead Serie A on 36 points, one clear of Fiorentina and Napoli.
Messi has been linked with a host of clubs in the past, particularly in England, but to be honest, for us, it just doesn’t feel right imagining him wearing any kit other than Barcelona’s!
