When Paul Pogba scored a tremendous free-kick during Juventus’ 4-0 victory over Torino on Wednesday night, the midfielder lifted his shirt to reveal a slogan about a supporter called Bryan.
Little was said about Pogba’s celebration at the time, after all one of the most exciting young talents in Serie A had just scored an absolute scorcher, so the message was lost along the way.
However the France international has since confirmed the reasoning behind his heart-warming celebration as he dedicated the goal to a young cancer patient he had met recently.
Pogba spoke to Rai television after the final whistle and explained: “He’s [Bryan] an 11-year-old kid who has cancer.
We promised we’d dedicate a goal to him, he’s always in my thoughts and always will be.”
However Pogba wasn’t the only Juve player to dedicate a goal during his team’s comfortable win over Torino.
Summer signing Paulo Dyabla, who joined from Palermo for €32 million, also found the net during the game and lifted his shirt to reveal a slogan which read, “Ale e’ Ricky”.
Dybala’s celebration was in honour of two Juventus youth team stars who tragically died in a drowning accident back in 2006.
Juve’s progression to the next round means they will face the winner between Lazio v Udinese.
