The Ballon d’Or final line-up has been revealed and there’s a familiar feel to the shortlist.
Both Cristiano Ronaldo and Leo Messi will do battle with Neymar, who is aiming to become the first player since his compatriot Kaka in 2007 to be named the best player on the planet.
But one man who could probably feel a bit hard done to is Luis Suarez, with the Uruguayan forward a key cog in Barcelona’s run to their historic treble last season – along with Messi and Neymar.
The trio – known as MSN – banged in an incredible 125 goals between them over the last calendar year, and Messi, who remains favourite to claim his fifth Ballon d’Or on January 11, reckons the final should be an all-Barcelona affair.
“I’d have liked to be on [the] Ballon d’Or podium with Neymar and Luis. Luis deserved it, but Cristiano also did well. We’ll have a good time.”
And Neymar agrees, adding: “Suarez should have been there too, but Messi is favourite, he’s the number one for me.
“Secret of MSN? Friendship and modesty. Leo and Luis are great friends, I hope to play with them for a long time, there are no egos.”
The pair were speaking at Monday night’s La Liga awards where Barcelona dominated after their treble-winning campaign.
Barca picked up five of the prizes, while rivals Real Madrid won two.
