We got an insight into what Owen Hargreaves really thought of Louis van Gaal’s team selection as Manchester United were knocked out of the Champions League last night.
The English giants will now play Europa League football next year after losing 3-2 to Wolfsburg and finishing third in their group.
It was another poor result for van Gaal and his team as they failed to make it out of a group they were favourites for before the campaign kicked off.
Failing to beat PSV over two games and drawing with CSKA Moscow away meant last night’s trip to Germany was must-win.
But they came up well short – as PSV beat CSKA in their match to join Wolfsburg in the last 16.
Hargreaves was critical of the team as he commentated on the match for BT Sport last night.
But we got an indication of what he really thought pre-match as Gary Lineker switched to him alongside Des Kelly to discuss the game.
What Hargreaves failed to realise though, was that he was on camera:

That Champions League winner he was speaking about was Michael Carrick, who was only introduced as a 69th-minute substitute.
It may have been unprofessional of Hargreaves not to realise he was live on air, but we found it interesting to hear him be so critical of van Gaal’s decision to leave Carrick on the bench.
More of that please, Owen.
