Ajax are fast establishing themselves as one of the nicest football clubs in the world.
Forget anything their players or fans might do, this is about those in charge of the club who have twice this week shown their kind side.
The first story came on Tuesday when they upgraded Heracles fans who travelled to their game in Amsterdam into the VIP seats because only 15 turned up.
Now they’ve came to the rescue of one supporter unable to get to games.
Willem is an 80-year-old fan from Leiden – a town 45 minutes away from Amsterdam – who is now too scared to take public transport to matches.
Another supporter knew about this and pleaded on Twitter for any fans travelling from the town to the Amsterdam Arena to give him a lift as he’s been a fan for 60 years.
Step forward Ajax, who responded to the plea with a brilliant gesture.
This is the original tweet sent by a fan called Esther:
— Esther (@esther_305) January 27, 2016
And it’s translated as: “Which season ticket holder goes from Leiden to the Arena? Willem (80) is a bit afraid to take the public transportation. He’s a supporter for over 60 years.”
Now for Ajax’s response:
— AFC Ajax (@AFCAjax) January 27, 2016
The translation to that tweet is: “Dear Esther, Ajax and Mercedes-Benz would like to take Willem from and to the Arena for the rest of the season. You’ll hear from us.”
How good is that?
If only all major football clubs had as close a relationship with some of their fans as Ajax do.
