Andreas Pereira was the star of the show as Manchester United’s Under-21 team beat Southampton last night.
The youth/reserve side came out on top 4-0 at Leigh Sports Village thanks to doubles from Adnan Januzaj and Will Keane.
The former’s goals were his first since returning early from a season-long loan spell at Borussia Dortmund – and one was a 25-yard beauty – while the former has now taken his tally to five goals in his last two games since being recalled from his Preston loan.
But it was all about Pereira on the night – as the Brazilian ripped Southampton apart with a display which befitted his nationality.
He showed flashes of brilliance throughout the one-sided victory, but these are just a few of his key moments.
The first came in the 58th minute when some ball juggling on the edge of the box ended with a dipping volley that Paulo Gazzanigga had to tip away from the top corner:
Pereira – who has made seven appearances for the top team this term – then followed that up by almost single-handedly bamboozling the Saints defence into conceding a penalty:
How good was that?
Keane stepped up to fire the penalty home, making Pereira’s set-up play for the spotkick even better.
More footage of the performance will come out as the day goes on, but these skills from Pereira must have United fans wondering when his time in the first team will come.
As mentioned, he’s made seven first team appearances this season – but only twice has he started under Louis van Gaal.
With United struggling for goals in the final third, maybe they need a new creator in Pereira to help them out?
