Irish Politicians Are Seriously Debating Putting Conor McGregor On the €1 Coin

Not content with amassing a small fortune over the last 12 months, Conor McGregor could soon find his own face on his countless Euro notes.

The Dublin-born fighter has enjoyed a sensational year after knocking out Jose Aldo in just 13 seconds at UFC 194 in December, and it was revealed on Tuesday night that McGregor will face Rafael dos Anjos at UFC 197 in March.

And a petition to have his face appear on the €1 coin was received by the Oireachtas – Ireland’s House of Deputies – last month and will be discussed by the Public Petitions Committee at Leinster House this afternoon.

As you can imagine, the man known as The Notorious was rather chuffed with the news, and soon let his followers on social media know all about the development…

Committee chairman, Pádraig MacLochlainn TD, confirmed to Irish news outlet RTE.ie: “Our first meeting of 2016 will allow the committee to consider and action a further group of petitions submitted by members of the public.

“We will discuss a petitioner’s request that sports personality Conor McGregor feature on the €1 coin.”

Petitions on cycle lanes, border control, and school access are also on the agenda at this afternoon’s debate.

What do you think of the prospect of paying for items with Conor McGregor’s face? Does he deserve such an accolade?
