Jason Day has admitted there was no way he even considered getting in front of LeBron James as the Basketball superstar hurtled towards his wife.
James accidentally flew into the court-side seats during a match for his Cleveland Cavaliers against Oklahoma City Thunder on December 16, and the giant, 6ft 8in athlete clattered into Ellie Day, wife of golfer Jason.
Ellie was carried off on a stretch, and whilst she didn’t incur any serious injuries, she did require a stay in hospital.
And now Day, who is gearing up to compete in Hyundai Tournament of Champions in Hawaii, has admitted he was powerless as the incident unfolded, and didn’t fancy throwing himself into the onrushing James.

He told ESPN: “It happened so quick. I’m going to do that?
“I’m not going to stop a 260-pound guy that’s 6-8 running full-speed. Ellie took it like a champ, though.
“Once I saw her, she was on the ground, she was kind of freaking out a little bit about her neck, and once they started doing the test on her — she’s moving her legs, hands, feet, arms — I knew everything was going to be OK.
“She had post-concussion symptoms.”
Fortunately, she was OK, and even made time to make light of the incident the next day on Twitter…
