Jordan Spieth is fast becoming one of sports most bankable stars and his latest deal could leave some of his rivals in the shade.
The 22-year-old American has just signed a massive deal to become one of the faces of Coca-Cola, and will appear on everything from TV adverts to digital and social media campaigns, as well as on packaging for Coca-Cola products, and its water brand Dasani.
And whilst exact amount have not been released by either party, ESPN.com claim the agreement is one of the drinks company’s biggest of all-time with a sportsman.
In a statement on his website, Spieth said of the deal: “Coca-Cola has always been associated with iconic sporting events and some of the world’s greatest athletes, so this is an incredibly cool opportunity for me.
“As a brand ambassador, I look forward to growing awareness for the sport of golf globally and engaging with fans in exciting new ways.”
According to The Independent, the world’s No1 golfer earned a massive $53 million in 2015, on and off the course, but this deal could see that figured dwarfed in this calendar year, and put alongside the likes of LeBron James in the financial stakes.
Back in December, we told you how James had signed a lifetime deal with Nike, becoming the first athlete ever to do so, and the basketballer has previously had his own flavour of Sprite named after him.
But Spieth’s deal with Coca-Cola – the Rolls Royce of soft drinks – could be a game changer.
With this deal, the golfer has laid down a marker to be considered the most marketable stars on the face of the planet.
