Arsenal are closing in on a couple of new signings and one already has his shirt number all picked out.
The Gunners are reportedly closing in on Nigerian youngsters Kelechi Nwakali and Samuel Chukwueze, with a combined fee of around £3 million said to be enough to secure their services.
Nwakali, an attacking midfielder, was the stand-out player of the Under-17 World Cup in Chile last year, which Nigeria won, and at which his team-mate Chukwueze, a winger, also impressed.
Neither are expected to become immediate members of the first-team even if they do sign in January, however Nwakali, who is sill just 17, has no doubt he will be a part of Wenger’s plans in the future and already has his squad number all picked out.
According to The Evening Standard, he wants to emulate fellow Nigerian and Arsenal legend Nwankwo Kanu by pulling on the number 25 jersey when he arrives in north London.
Kanu, now 39, scored 44 goals in 197 games for Arsenal between 1999 and 2004, earning himself cult status amongst the club’s fans.
Good luck, Kelechi…big shoes to fill!
