The golfing world is paying tribute to Christy O’Connor Jnr after his sudden death at the age of 67.
It was confirmed earlier this afternoon that the Irishman had passed away suddenly while on holiday with his wife Ann in Spain.
The messages are already flooding in for O’Connor – who never won a major in his golf career, but did provide one of the all-time great Ryder Cup moments when his 2-iron approach shot at the last edged a singles win over Fred Couples in 1989.
The Galway man also has four European titles to his name and is the nephew of legendary Irish golfer Christy O’Connor Snr, now 91.
But it’s that Ryder Cup shot we want to look back on – with O’Connor Jnr producing a genuine moment of genius to help Europe retain the trophy at the Belfry 27 years ago:
