The calendar year is barely underway but Samir Handanovic has already submitted his award for save of the season.
The Inter Milan goalkeeper was between the sticks as usual on Saturday for the Nerazurri’s Serie A match away at Atalanta.
Inter – currently managed by former Man City boss Robert Mancini – are currently locked in a three-way title fight for the Italian top-flight crown, so a defeat would be pretty damaging to their hopes.
And with the match evenly poised at 1-1 on the hour mark, Atalanta striker Luca Cigarini was presented with a glorious opportunity to put his side in front from just five yards, but he wasn’t banking on Handanovic’s acrobatics…

In the end, the Slovenian goalie’s heroics proved vital, with the match finishing 1-1, and Inter remaining second in the table behind leaders Napoli.
Handanovic has previously been linked with a move to the Premier League, and any scouts watching his performance today will be going back to their club with glowing reports.
