Arsenal Start Against Southampton With Flamini Instead of Elneny and Fans Aren’t Happy

Arsenal take on Southampton this evening in a crucial Premier League match at the Emirates.

The Gunners are currently third in the table, but sit just three points off the summit, as they host the side that handed out a 4-0 thrashing to them as recently as Boxing Day.

Fresh from a positive club debut in the FA Cup win over Burnley, new signing Mohamed Elneny could have been forgiven for thinking he had a pretty decent chance of making his Prem bow against the Saints, but we can only imagine his disappointment when he found Mathieu Flamini was starting ahead of him.

In fact, there’s no place at all for Elneny in the matchday squad, with Francis Coquelin back on the bench:

He was once a cult figure amongst Arsenal fans, but Flamini is now a much maligned character, and news of his impending start drew a pretty strong reaction on social media.

We shouldn’t laugh, but some of these are pretty funny…
