Celtic Fans Jump to Defence of Leigh Griffiths After Twitter Abuse

Some Celtic supporters were forced to jump to the defence of Leigh Griffiths this morning after the Hoops striker shared abuse he received on Twitter following his side’s League Cup semi-final exit to Ross County.

The Scottish hitman was part of the team soundly beaten 3-1 by the Staggies yesterday in the weekend’s cup upset.

Ronny Deila’s men had led 1-0 through Gary Mackay-Steven’s goal after just 27 seconds, but an Efe Ambrose sending off on 13 minutes changed the tie and County recovered to win the game.

It ended all talk of a potential treble for Celtic this season and fans are understandably angry at Deila and the team for the performance and result.

But some are angrier than others – with blame going in a variety of directions.

One supporter – named Tommy Fraser on Twitter – believes Griffiths is to blame for the shock exit to County.

The Celtic striker has 27 goals to his name already this season, but missed a second-half penalty which could have got his team back into the game.

And this Hoops fan believes it’s his fault, aiming some abuse at Griffiths:

That post was retweeted by Griffiths this morning and some Celtic fans immediately jumped to his defence:

Celtic fans – should Griffiths take any blame for the result?
