Forget Christmas Day or New Year’s Eve – today is one of the days football fans look forward to most, with just about every club across Britain making some sort of last-minute move in the transfer market.
And supporters of Charlton Athletic weren’t left disappointed, with their club pulling out all the stops to bring in a deadline-busting recruit.
He’s big, he’s strong, he’s French, he’s – called Fanni.
Yup, the Championship strugglers have completed the signing of 34-year-old defender Rod Fanni from Qatari side Al-Arabi for the rest of the season, with the right-back hoping to play his part in keeping the club in the division.
Now, we’re all adults, but you can probably imagine the response his arrival received on social media, with the club not really helping themselves by emblazoning his name in bold letters across a Twitter post…

It seems that no one was particularly bothered by the actual transfer, rather the opportunity to behave like school kids…
@CAFCofficial any truth in the rumour you after Bobo Balde for a Balde Fanni CB partnership?

@CAFCofficial Good signing. I expect he'll be out of action for a week every month, though?
