Rio Ferdinand has joked that Cristiano Ronaldo didn’t speak to him much at Manchester United because he wasn’t a fan of the former England defender’s cooking.
Ferdinand was responding to comments made by Ronaldo in the build-up to Real Madrid’s last-16 Champions League tie against Roma on Wednesday night.
The Portuguese attacker was questioned about the closeness of the Madrid squad, which looks more distant when compared to the ongoing bromance between Messi, Neymar and Suarez at Barcelona.
But, as we told you at the time, Ronaldo rejected the theory that you have to be good friends away from the pitch to be a successful team, claiming that he rarely spoke to Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes or Ferdinand the year that United won the Champions League.
Well, following coverage of Chelsea’s Champions League defeat to PSG on Tuesday, broadcasters BT Sport played the comments to Ferdinand, and he managed to just about put on a brave face:
