Iker Casillas has got fans talking about the subject of retirement with just one Instagram post.
The Spanish legend is just a quarter of the way through a two-year deal at Porto after leaving Real Madrid last summer.
But he could be hinting at retirement with his latest Instagram post.
Casillas was tagged in a picture of a fan’s FIFA 16 game where, virtually, he informs his manager that he wants to retire.
It comes in the 2017/18 season of what we believe is the fan’s career mode, and the virtual Casillas gives a persuasive reason for calling time on his career, but hopes he can play his part in the final game.
From the picture alone, this could have been taken as a creative way to announce the end of a great career is coming to an end:
But the confusion comes with Casillas’ comment on the picture, writing: “#muypronto #todavíano”
Both hashtags translate to “very soon” and “not yet”, which suggests Casillas might be thinking about retirement, but he’s not prepared to call it a day just yet.
And what that really means about his future is anyone’s guess.
He’s 34 and will be 36 by the time his Porto deal ends in 2017, but maybe the legendary Madrid goalkeeper will continue to play on elsewhere into his late 30s.
Casillas has shed no light on when he will hang up the gloves, but the post suggests he’s thinking about it.
And when that day comes, it will be a sad one for football fans all over the world as one of the game’s greatest ever goalkeepers calls it a day.
