Sunderland have, in the last hour sacked midfielder Adam Johnson after the 28-year-old pleaded guilty to one count of sexual activity with a child and one charge of grooming.
It’s been a day to forget for the midfielder as sportswear giants Adidas cancelled their contract with him before Sunderland boss Sam Allardyce announced he would be left out of the squad for Saturday’s match with Manchester United.
Allardyce’s words left many people wondering what would come next and the Black Cats released a statement on their club website shortly after, stating that Johnson had been sacked with immediate effect.
It came as no surprise and football fans took to Twitter to have their say on the matter with the majority happy with Sunderland’s decision.
Most people were glad to see the back of the former Manchester City star.
